Consignment
Basecamp Gear Library Consignment is an initiative of Skowhegan Outdoors and Main Street Skowhegan dedicated to supporting community access to outdoor gear. We make it easier for people to access quality outdoor gear by giving gently used equipment a second life. Whether you’re gearing up for your next hike, paddle, or winter outing, every purchase and consignment helps keep our community active and the outdoors accessible to all.
Step 1
Clean and inspect all items for wear, tear, functionality, and missing parts. Please refer to our condition rating system:
- Like new:
New or used once items with no visible wear and tear - Great:
Very light or no wear and tear but has been used multiple times - Good:
Some wear and tear but nothing that would affect usage - Fair:
Visible signs of usage, still functional but large signs of wear and tear - Will Not Accept:
Dirty, broken, significant wear and tear that affects the function of the item
Step 2
Come on down to Skowhegan Outdoors Basecamp Gear Library on Saturdays between 9am and 5pm to consign items.
A Skowhegan Outdoors team member will inspect the item and determine pricing based on original retail value, condition, and demand.
Winter Items: Accepted October through March.
Summer Items: Accepted April through October.
We DO NOT accept sports equipment at this time.
Not sure? Check out our list of Acceptable Seasonal Gear.
Step 3
After paperwork and documentation is complete, your item will be available for purchase for 90 days. Consignors will be notified of sold items on Saturdays. Payments will be issued by check within a reasonable period following the sale, according to the Consignee’s standard payout schedule.
Pricing
The Consignee shall earn a commission equal to 50% of the final sales price of any goods sold under this Agreement. The remaining 50% of the sales price shall be payable to the Consignor. Pricing is based on original retail value, condition, and demand.

FAQ
What is consignment?
Consignment is the process of the consignor (that’s you!), giving permission to the consignee (Skowhegan Outdoors!) to sell your items.
What items do we accept?
Check out our list of Acceptable Seasonal Gear.
But feel free to stop by the Basecamp Gear Library at 65 Water Street (in the back of Joe's Flat Iron Café) and ask about specific items.
Where to begin?
Select the items you’d like to consign. Clean and check the condition before bringing the items to Skowhegan Outdoors anytime on Saturdays. Take a look at the Consignment Agreement and Intake Form. These documents will be signed in person once the items have been inspected, accepted, and priced.
How long do you keep my items?
Ninety (90) days from the date of acceptance.
What happens if my items don’t sell?
Any goods that remain unsold must be picked up by the Consignor within fifteen (15) days following the end of the consignment period. If the Consignor fails to retrieve the items within this time, the Consignor agrees that ownership of the goods will be relinquished and the items may be donated to Skowhegan Outdoors at the Consignee’s discretion.
Will you buy my items outright?
No. At this time, Skowhegan Outdoors is only accepting items for consignment or donations.
How many items can I consign?
As many as you want. If you are bringing in more than 5 items or larger items (bikes, kayaks, etc), please reach out to us ahead of time.
I am not interested in consigning. Can I donate?
Yes! Skowhegan Outdoors is always accepting donations. Clean and check the condition before bringing the items to Skowhegan Outdoors anytime on Saturdays and fill out the In-Kind Donation Form in person.
