Getting outside shouldn’t depend on what gear you can afford. The Skowhegan Outdoors Basecamp makes quality outdoor equipment available to everyone — so you can try a new activity, plan your next adventure, or simply get out the door without the cost of buying it all yourself.
Our library has everything from backpacks and tents to snowshoes, paddling gear, and more. Borrow what you need during open hours or by appointment, head out into central Maine’s trails, rivers, and woods, and return it when you’re done. It’s that simple. Membership Options
Somerset County Residents — Free Free gear lending for everyone who lives in Somerset County. No membership fee, ever. We believe getting outside is for everyone, and removing that barrier for our neighbors is at the heart of what we do. Bring the whole family and borrow what you need, season after season.
Maine Resident Membership — $100/year A one-year membership for Maine residents outside Somerset County, with full borrowing access to the entire gear library and no per-rental fees. It’s a great fit if you head our way for hiking, paddling, or winter adventures and want gear ready whenever you are. Your membership also helps sustain the program and keep gear free for Somerset County families.
Summer Resident Membership — $50/season For seasonal residents who call Maine home part of the year. Borrow gear throughout your stay — no need to haul everything north with you. Whether it’s a paddle on the river, a family hike, or a weekend camping trip, the Basecamp has you covered.
Out-of-State Passes — $15/day Visiting from away? Grab a short-term pass and gear up for your adventure. Choose 1-Day, 3-Day, or 6-Day options. Pick up your gear at the Basecamp, explore at your own pace, and return everything at the end of your pass. No long-term commitment required.
