Outdoor Fitness with Matt – Certified Personal Trainer | June 9, 16, 23, 30

HIIT: High-intensity interval training experience designed to build strength, endurance, and agility in the fresh air. Using bodyweight exercises, functional movements, and minimal equipment, each session keeps you moving with explosive bursts and active recovery.

Rucksack Walk: A low-impact but challenging way to build endurance, strength, and mental toughness. Carrying a weighted pack, we’ll trek through scenic trails, improving cardio, core stability, and resilience with every step.

Trail Building 101 w/ Somerset Woods Trustees | June 7

Join us for an introduction to trail building at Wesserunsett Stream Preserve on National Trails Day! Rachel Cheatham-McFadden will be leading a trail-building how-to that will include leveling and widening tread, removing stumps, eliminating brush, and side-hill digging. This event is open to individuals of all ages, but participants should expect physical labor, fun, but sometimes challenging work, and a great time! Skowhegan Paddling Club | June 3, 5, 7, 8, 10, 17, 19, 29

Let’s paddle! All experience levels welcome. We have several events upcoming in June. We will recurrently offer Intro to Whitewater Kayaking in The Forks and Stand-Up Paddle Boarding at Lake George, along with attendance at two Maine special paddling events on the weekend of June 7 – 8. We will come together to caravan and run the Kennebec River on the 29th! All paddling gear included. Please RSVP and include what gear you need to participate.

Open Bench Hour: Be Your Own Bike Mechanic | June 5, 19

Open Bench Hour is an all-ages drop-in program open to the community to work on your own bike. Work independently or with guidance using our repair stands, benches, and tools. A Basecamp mechanic and volunteers are available to assist and answer questions. This program is open to anyone, no mechanical experience required. This is a learning space!

Youth Summer Learning Series

Skowhegan Outdoors is a community-driven outdoor recreation initiative dedicated to ensuring that everyone—regardless of background or experience—has access to free, guided outdoor activities and equipment. We are proud to offer a variety of summer camp-like experiences designed specifically for youth ages 14 and older. All of our Summer Learning Series programs are free to attend, with food and gear provided. No prior outdoor experience is necessary. Each series runs as a day program throughout the week and concludes with a memorable overnight adventure to apply new skills, build friendships, and explore the outdoors together.

Intro to Geocaching | June 16

Discover the world of geocaching with us at beautiful Philbrick Trails! This beginner-friendly event will teach you how to use GPS or a smartphone to search for hidden treasures around the park. It’s a fun, family-friendly way to explore the outdoors and learn a new hobby that blends adventure, navigation, and nature.
