Program will take place on the West Branch of the Penobscot River. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram Type: 2-Day/Overnight Experience \nCost: $200 \n\n\nIncludes: \n\nProfessional instruction\nKayak\, paddle\, helmet\, PFD\nTransportation & gear transport\nLunch/Dinner on Day 1 – Breakfast/Lunch on Day 2\, Snacks\nLodging\nRiver logistics\n\nWhat to Expect\n\n\nAn immersive two-day introduction designed to build skills progressively. Day one is spent on flatwater and Class I moving water focusing on fundamentals and controlled practice\, while day two applies those skills in more dynamic settings. Instruction is hands-on\, supportive\, and paced to the group. \nThis programs is ideal for participants looking for meaningful learning\, confidence\, and community. \nNo prior whitewater experience is required\, but participants should be comfortable in water and able to swim. These programs are designed for youth ages 11–17 who are excited to spend time outside\, try new things\, build confidence\, and learn outdoor skills in a supportive environment. \nPrograms may include paddling\, whitewater kayaking\, mountain biking\, fishing\, camping\, hiking\, coastal exploration\, outdoor leadership\, and stewardship activities. Each program is designed to meet participants where they are while encouraging teamwork\, skill-building\, and confidence outdoors. \nPrograms run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. Some programs may include overnight experiences. Families will receive additional details about daily meeting locations\, packing lists\, transportation\, and overnight logistics before the start of each program. \nWho Can Register\nThe Youth Summer Learning Series is open to youth ages 11–17. Beginners are welcome for most programs\, and no prior outdoor experience is required unless noted in the specific program description. Some programs\, such as Intermediate Whitewater Paddling\, may require prior experience or instructor approval. \nWhat’s Included\nThanks to generous funding and community support\, programs are free to participate in unless otherwise noted.
