DESCRIPTION:Outdoor Yoga is moving to a whole other level. Join Skowhegan Outdoors coach\, Emma\, for an active flow yoga class under the October Harvest Moon. Feel free to bring your own mat and blocks\, but if you do not have these props\, MSS has several to loan (please indicate in your pre registration form that you will need to borrow equipment). We sanitize all of our gear after each use. Meet us at the Lake George Regional Park Island (West) to move together under the full moon.  \nClass will begin promptly at 8:00 p.m.. Several years later\, at age 15\, while recovering from gymnastic-related injuries\, she rediscovered her yoga practice. She not only discovered yoga aided in the healing process of her physical injuries\, but also brought awareness to the synergistic qualities of the mind-body. Emma is excited to be several months along in her journey to becoming a 200 hr ERYT Yoga Alliance certified teacher through Sundara Yoga. Drive all the way down the road (about a mile) to the public beach. \nTeacher Bio: Emma Corwin \nYoga has always been a big part of Emma’s life– toddling in and out of classes while her mother taught in the studio attached to her childhood home. Several years later\, at age 15\, while recovering from gymnastic-related injuries\, she rediscovered her yoga practice. She not only discovered yoga aided in the healing process of her physical injuries\, but also brought awareness to the synergistic qualities of the mind-body. Yoga has been a grounding force in her life over the past eleven years and is excited to be several months along in her journey to becoming a 200 hr ERYT Yoga Alliance certified teacher through Sundara Yoga. DESCRIPTION:Skowhegan Outdoors and Main Street Skowhegan are excited to announce the first annual Kennebec Paddlethon! Join us September 5 for a guided river trip where participants will enjoy the challenge of a Marathon (13 river miles) or Fun Run (6 river miles) paddle\, while learning about the past\, present and future significance of the Kennebec River and its surrounding land. The paddle will be guided from Madison to Skowhegan by Skowhegan Outdoors Rec Coaches\, Emma Corwin and Mara Kavanaugh. In addition to a great day on the water\, participants will enjoy “raft up chats” with local historians along the way who will educate on the rich history of and around the Kennebec River. This paddle has options for all paddlers\, from first timers to experienced. We hope you will join us!\n\nThis is a free event for the community. DESCRIPTION:Join coach Emma and Mara for a paddle on Lake George! We’ll be there to give tips and tricks of SUP (stand-up paddleboard) basics while we explore the lake. We will guide groups of four around Lake George in one hour sessions from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Please bring water\, sunscreen\, and enthusiasm for what is sure to be a fun day! \nPlease pre-register in advance here and sign up for a time slot on the hour. Here\, participants will learn skills to get out of some of the most common assaults. You will learn how to draw attention to an assault\, some basic hand and feet techniques\, self defense techniques\, and most importantly\, have fun while doing it! All this\, outdoors\, in the beautiful Coburn Park! \nInstructor Bio:\nMatt Owens\nNew Creation Taekwondo\nMatt Owens has a well-rounded martial arts background that began while he was growing up in New Jersey. He has studied taekwondo for 15 years and has taught it for 12; kickboxing for 10 years; and jiu-jitsu for 2 years. Matt has two black belts in taekwondo and a black belt in kickboxing. He has taught toddlers to adults. Matt has competed in and won dozens of tournaments along the east coast. Even while being busy studying martial arts\, he has obtained his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Thomas College\, raises two children with his wife\, and started his own taekwondo business in January 2020.
