Hidden away in the woods\, this shallow pool is teeming with life in spring when frogs\, toads and salamanders travel through the leaf litter to breed and lay eggs in the fishless water. We will walk approx. one-half mile from the Russell Road trailhead to the pool\, where Somerset Woods Trustees’ executive director Jennifer Brockway will help us find and identify different critters.   \nPlease arrive 15 minutes early to check in. DESCRIPTION:Meet @ MSS office 9 a.m.\nBelgrade\, Maine\nProgram Limit: 25 participants \nPreregister for the program here: https://forms.gle/D8yY6GFqDadBXUda8 \nJoin Skowhegan Outdoors for a family-friendly hike up Sanders Hill in the Kennebec Highlands Conserved Land in Rome\, Maine! On this hike\, participants can expect a gradual hike on a loop trail to the summit and a rewarding view once we get there. The total loop is approximately 3 miles and could take up to 5 hours depending on the speed of our all-ages group. This program is appropriate for all ages and abilities\, but participants should be comfortable moving for 3-5 hours on uneven terrain\, outdoors\, and uphill for half of the hike.  \nSkowhegan Outdoors facilitators will call participants before this program to ensure preparedness. Please arrive at the MSS office 15 minutes early to check in. We will leave promptly at 9 a.m.. \nWeather in April can be unpredictable. This hike features a lovely view after a 1\,000 foot climb. The total mileage round trip is approximately 5 miles and could take up to 6 hours to complete\, depending on conditions. This program is best suited for intermediate hikers and is rated as moderate to strenuous. Participants should be comfortable being outdoors for long periods of time and hiking up moderate to steep hills.  Skowhegan Outdoors Facilitators will call participants before this program to ensure preparedness. If you are unable to attend the community event on the morning of Sunday\, March 21\, no worries\, we will keep the story walk set up throughout the afternoon. This program is for young kiddos + their grownups. We will go over technique\, healthy warm-up activities\, and practice getting comfortable on skinny skis. This clinic will be great for folks on skis for the first time\, folks looking for a refresh\, or someone just looking for a fun time to be outdoors and meet new people in the community! We will run through the clinic and then have the opportunity to ski on the beautifully groomed trails at Lakewood Golf Course. \nPlease dress warmly\, bring water and snacks\, and wear your face mask. In this clinic we will cover the seven Leave No Trace principles\, which set the standard for responsible usership of the outdoors. We will also cover several topics specific to Maine environments. Do your part to keep the natural places you enjoy pristine for animal inhabitants and future generations to come. This program is open to anyone who is interested in spending time outside\, regardless of age or experience level. \nWe will meet at the Coburn Woods parking area. Please wear your face mask\, dress warmly\, wear winter boots\, and bring water\, snacks\, and snowshoes.
